Vanity of Vanities

Prophecy: May 17,1998

by Jeannette L. Vetter

Ecclesiates 12:8 8 Vanity of Vanities, saith the Preacher; all is vanity.

False outward show...

Eccesiates 12:4

And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and shall the daughters of music shall be brought low...

This I say unto those who choose the vanities of this life, for the words I say unto thee are true. See thou do it not. I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Rev. 19:10).

This is what I say to the sound of the grinding that is low and full of the spirit of mysticism. Do you not know that you crushed my grapes of wine, the fruit that has ripened on the vine? You tossed them into the vat of spoils; the good grapes are crushed and turned into vinegar. At the foot of the cross was set a vessel full of vinegar. They filled a sponge with vinegar, put it upon hyssop, and put it to My mouth. Therefore, I was purified with hyssop that you may be clean, whiter than snow. By the virtue of My sacrifice, your souls are purged. Have you forgotten the hyssop used to sprinkle the blood of the lamb above the doorpost? You have touched the unclean, the uncleanness of death. Sprinkle hyssop, purge yourself with My blood, the lamb, the blood that I bore on My cross into a place called the place of a skull. You bring this spirit of the skull into My house, the spirit of mysticism that has enjoined the skull of magical powers. This death is a suffocation of thy spirit, it is a hideous, slow and painful death.

You have fashioned "worship" into a mysticism of death. You have risen early to play and offer a song that is grinding of the low god. You have turned aside quickly out of the way, into corruption, where I have not commanded you to go. You cast forth the wild vine that produces the bitter grape; you will wither; and be cast into the fire. I came and you received Me not, you have no wedding garment.

Matt 22:11-14

11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:

12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14 For many are called, but few are chosen. (KJV)

You have taken my servants, and entreated them spitefully, and have slew them. I, the King, have heard their cries and seen their steps. I am wroth at your rebelliousness, your shouts of power, your shouts of fire, and your noise of them that sing. I hear. I am not a faceless God, a God that offers up strange smoke or strange fire. How long, Oh you perverse generation, will you shame my Name? Your seed is rotten, my garden is desolate, and the cristern is broken. My Voice you do not hear. But the prophets of mysticism, you listen to them, those who prophecy from their own vanities. They send to you the rush of death!

Have I not sent the Living Word? In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Have I not sent the Bread of Life? Have I not given you Living Water? Have I not given you scripture by My inspiration?

2 Tim 3:16

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (KJV)

My Holy Scriptures will judge, purge and lead you into all truth.

I sent the serpents to my people in the desert. Those who do not look upon me I shall send a fire, a fire of hot wax to melt the impurities of your soul, I shall send a plague of locusts.
...The lion hath roared, who will not fear?

Amos 3:6:8

Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? ...The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

 Joel 1:5

Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

Interpretation of Vanity of Vanities

by Lee Y. Martin, Ph.D.

In this prophecy we have a picture of a house in ruinous condition. Jeannette was led by the Holy Spirit to Ecclesiastes 12:4 to document His Words to the church here. Most Bible teachers agree that this chapter in Ecclesiastes refers to a person who has lived out his life and has gone the way of all men in that body strength has abated and body parts have become worn out.

In the previous verse 3 we note that the aged person's legs and knees shake and quiver while walking, some or all of the teeth are missing, and the eyes have lost their ability to see. We must look at verse 4 in this same context of decrepitness or deterioration to learn why the Spirit selected this verse alone as the foundation for His message. I submit that it is because it speaks to the condition, at this time, of the church, now 2000 years old.

Ecclesiastes 12:4 "And the doors shall be shut in the streets..."
Ecclesiastes 12:4 "And the doors shall be shut in the streets..."

In ancient times, just as it is today, people shut their doors when it gets dark. Even though we live in an era of great enlightenment relative to worldly wisdom, there is immense spiritual darkness. On the surface all seems well as the church marches on to conquer the world. We hear talk of great and mighty supernatural happenings with signs and wonders visibly prominent in our assemblies. We're told an unprecedented move of God is about to occur whereby miracles and vast healings will be witnessed by the entire world, and this in turn will bring about a revival to change whole nations and peoples. This is the foundational teaching of the Restoration Movement that they say will bring about the latter rain revival, which we have been hearing about for decades. Much of this "new wine" teaching is based upon "new revelations" given to the latter day prophets who elevate their visions and dreams to an equal or higher status than the written Word of God as established and finalized in the first century when the Lord authorized and inspired Paul and the first century apostles to speak to and document the reality of God's New Testament confirmed in the blood of Jesus. These prophets believe that the Bible is not finalized, and teach that we must believe "sola scriptura" is no longer tenable as the means to know God. They have rethought the problem of our Lord's delay and promote the idea that Progressive revelation is God's method of dealing with mankind and their "new revelations", which are legion, supercede the established written Word of God. Given this is to be true, believers are led to believe they must toss out or compromise whole parts of the Bible which confound much of what is being taught. This would obviate the need to heed the Holy Scriptures which teach us not to add to nor take away from the Words of God such as the following:

Rev 22:18-19

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (KJV)

and again:

Jer 26:2

2 Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD's house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD's house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:... (KJV)

and again:

Deut 4:2

2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. (KJV)

We can see from the above Old and New Testament verses that we ought not mess with God's Word and in fact are warned of dire consequences if we do so. Each book within the Bible is a chapter in God's completed written revelation of Himself and to change anything in any part of the book is no different than trying to change some of Shakespeare's words in his works. To do so is to destroy his style and hence his repute if not his message. If men would not think of tampering with Shakespeare, a mere man, why do men think it all right to tamper with Almighty God's Words? Isn't He able to preserve His Words down through time so that we do indeed have a copy of His original inerrant work? 1 I for one believe He is able and moreover that we do have a copy of His inerrant work preserved in the King James Bible. But that's another matter. For now it is sufficient to note that if it is perilous to change anything in the last chapter of God's book, Revelation, it is also dangerous to play havoc with His Words through prolific indiscriminant allegorizing of Scripture apart from a literal rendition of the text first.

"...when the sound of the grinding is low..."

This portion of verse 4 speaks to the termination of commerce during nighttime hours. Maidens in Solomon's day ground or thrashed wheat in much the same way that they crushed grapes in vats with their feet.

Vine grapes...

When the sound of grinding -- the thrashing of wheat -- is low, the thrashers were no longer working because night had fallen and they had gone home to bed. How does this relate to our prophecy?

It perhaps means that the hour is late -- 20 centuries have passed since our Lord ascended and left us watching for His return -- and the church is asleep oblivious to the spiritual darkness covering the church world. Men's impatient seeking to set up Jesus' Kingdom before He comes back to set it up Himself has opened the door for mysticism to return with a vengeance after having been blunted by the Reformation in the 6th and subsequent centuries. Mysticism is fertile ground for anything false to emerge because it thrives on the imaginations and intuitions of men. It feeds on subjective experiences and renounces objective proof of its claims with Bible doctrine. It appears like mysticism will be the place of incubation for the false Kingdom of the false Christ. In this prophecy the Holy Spirit divulged that the spirit of mysticism is the catalyst for death by suffocation. In short, mysticism is the seedbed for delusion and spiritual deception, and in our estimation is to be feared much more than blatant sins such as adultery or drunkenness because you cannot see or put your finger on mysticism. The Spirit said it was "a hideous, slow and painful death."

The danger of seeking to "experience" God outside His written Word is that we get ahead of Him. By not patiently waiting and watching for our Lord's return we unwittingly lay the foundation for the Antichrist's Kingdom. Moreover, it is possible that hunger for a move of God can lead to questionable fruits of the spirit. Good works done in the flesh will not produce heavenly fruit.

Ps 127:1

1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. (KJV)

How can we know that we are deceived into abetting Satan's evil scheme to rule the world as God? There is only one way. Search the Scriptures, for they are the only benchmark from which to test all things. Tragically, if people promote "new revelations" and subjective "experiencing" of God outside the Word as superceding, even revoking objective, traditional, Scriptural truths, they have done away with the only standard by which these "new things" may be tried. The words of A. W. Tozer penned in his book Success and the Christian are instructive:

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

"...any of it [teaching] that is good is in the Word of God and any that is not in the Word of God is not good. I am a Bible Christian and if an archangel with a wingspread as broad as a constellation shining like the sun were to come and offer me some new truth, I'd ask him for a reference. If he could not show me where it is found in the Bible, I would bow him out and say, 'I'm awfully sorry, you don't bring any references with you'." (p. 65,66) (italics and underlining mine)

The "sound of the grinding" symbolizes the teaching of doctrine in the church, and the emphasis of doctrine is no longer fashionable. We're told that doctrine divides and inhibits unity, but compromising truth for the sake of unity is no virtue. Paul warned Timothy in both his letters that in the latter times sound doctrine would be rejected (2 Timothy 4:3) and exchanged for doctrines of devils (2 Timothy 4:1). The new teachings have supplanted great portions of sanctioned scripture and people who hold to the conventional wisdom are castigated as Pharisaical obstructers of a new move of God and worthy of being excommunicated from the church. How could such a situation arise? Because objective doctrine is devalued and subjective "experiencing" is sought for and esteemed above the teaching of the Word of God. Indeed, men travel hundreds of miles to have an "experience" with God. Hence, the workers in God's house who teach sound doctrine have become few and isolated. If teaching occurs at all, much of it is defective in that it promotes Bible doctrine as less important than singing and dancing and having fun in God's presence on the one hand, or, it casts doubts about Jesus' deity, His work of salvation, His resurrection, or the sufficiency of His Word to meet the needs of man. It is instructive that Paul uses the word "doctrine," which means teaching, 16 times in three of his smallest and last letters to be written -- 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus. It is as if he knew that in the latter days doctrine would be at a premium.

Amos 8:11

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: (KJV)

What happens when good Bible teaching diminishes? A vacuum yearns to be filled. Thankfully there are a few churches still proclaiming the good Word of God, but when the lack of sound teaching is annulled, it is replaced by the spirit of mysticism, which is what the Holy Spirit said had happened to the church to which this prophecy was given. Mysticism is hard to define because it is in fact a mystery, something no one can put his finger on.

prayings hands lifed up and devil defeated

It is an amorphous array of hidden, dark, and indistinct thought forms, with emotional experiences highly prized and sought after. In short it is occultic. Perhaps this is why the Spirit said the aged church is darkened with its doors shut and its workers grinding out little in the way of sound doctrine. Truth is fallen in thestreets as in Isaiah's day (59:14) and is not being taught and loved. A growing number of God's people prefer to be entertained by soulish music. This music has become the driving force setting the tone for what happens at church services and and meetings.2 The Spirit said, in Ecclesiastes, however, that the "daughters of music shall be brought low." In the prophecy we read that believers are accused by the Spirit of rising early -- "he shall rise up at the voice of the bird" -- to play and offer worship to the low god. This must mean that there is a demon god of music to whom many give allegiance. The "new" music we hear in our churches, He says, is bringing forth "wild vines that produce bitter grapes," probably the grapes of wrath fitted and destined for destruction. (Check Revelation 14:18,19)

The Spirit informs us that God's good grapes which had ripened on the vine -- the Philadelphian church that went through the "open door" of Revelation 3:8 and preached the gospel around the world -- were becoming crushed by revisionists who would return to mysticism and allow the church to be tossed back into a "vat of spoils." Could He be talking about the new move toward ecumenicalism whereby the Reformation (Philadelphian) church, which separated from Catholicism because of unsound doctrine, is now apostatizing and returning to the vat from which it came? He remarks that it has become spoiled and has turned into vinegar. Note that He said it is by Jesus' sacrifice our souls are purged. Why did He say this? Is it because Catholicism teaches a progressive system of works for salvation? We dare not return to the place where mysticism reigns and obscures the truth of the gospel of Jesus. Jesus alone has remitted our sins once and for all, and He alone is our mediator:

Heb 10:12

12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; (KJV)

Heb 10:14

14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. (KJV)

1 Tim 2:5

5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; (KJV)

The above shows that there is only one redeemer who has paid the price for sins one time. Advocating that there must be a repetition of many sacrifices of Christ in the Mass and that there is a co-redeemer (in the person of Mary) is to change the obvious teaching we see in the scriptures above. Hence, inhibiting exposure of the truth through teaching is a move back into mysticism, the unlit, sinister arena which produced the dark ages where paganism was and is tolerated for the sake of unity, and where the God of one's choice is approved. How does one get into this arena of mysticism? By rejecting Bible doctrine and not walking in the love of the truth. (Read the entire book of 2 John.)

It's a serious matter to prefer fun and games, spiritual drunkenness, and emotional experiences to hearing the Word of the Lord. Paul warns us in 2 Thessalonians that men are going to believe the ultimate damnable lie of the Antichrist system because they loved not the truth:

II Th 2:11-12

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (KJV)

What is it they had pleasure in? Unrighteousness! Not being right! Not being on the right path to God! Not loving the truth! Jesus Asked the Father to "sanctify them (believers) through thy truth: thy Word is truth" (John 17:17). It is the Word that sanctifies and cleanses, not seeking a "touch" of God as is being promoted in so many churches today. Therefore, it behooves us to stay with the written Word in order that we might be sanctified or set apart for God's use.

The Spirit reminds us that Jesus alone is the Word of God and that He has already given us the scriptures by inspiration. We don't need any other revelations telling us God is doing a "new thing." Jesus said nothing about doing "new things" at the end of the age. In fact, the only thing He said about the end of the age was to watch for His return and take heed that we be not deceived. (Read Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 chapters.) Paul clarifies and makes clear what this endtime deception is. Because men love not the truth, not desiring to be right more than wanting to experience the supernatural, they in essence are taking pleasure in being "unrighteous," "unright" to coin a word. In other words they are taking pleasure in being wrong, and because of this, Paul said God would send strong delusion that men should believe a lie, a final deception so pernicious and impervious to detection that only those who stay with the written Word would be able not to be ensnared by it. This final lie will be so subtle, so believable and seemingly so right that "if it were possible even the very elect shall be deceived" (Matthew 24:24). The "if" in this verse is a first class condition in the Greek meaning that it is a truism. That is a sobering thought to find that the very elect can be deceived.3

A drop of arsenic in a cup of tea doesn't mean one has mostly tea with a tiny bit of poison. Rather, one has poisoned tea and it can be lethal!

tea pot & cups

Our only hope for deliverance from this deception is the Word of God. It has been said, "If we reject the Word of god, we eventually will reject the God of the Word!" Let us remember that small errors or little inaccuracies can lead to major heresies. A drop of arsenic in a cup of tea doesn't mean one has mostly tea with a tiny bit of poison. Rather, one has poisoned tea and it can be lethal! A little error in a batch of truth is likewise deadly. Perhaps not immediately, but eventually it will take it's toll. We see, then, that it is the lack of love of the truth to learn whether these "new things" are so that will anger and cause God to permit strong delusion to inundate the world and precipitate the Day of the Lord and His Holy wrath. But blessed be God, He has not left us without His Word. It is up to each one of us to learn where this supposedly new move of God is leading. Let us diligently search the Holy inspired Scriptures and not be caught without a wedding garment without which, as spoken by the Holy Spirit in this prophecy as well as God's Holy Word, we cannot attend the wedding. Don't look at men. Keep your eyes on Jesus. And that means keeping your eyes on the Word of God.

No wedding garment ...

1 Note that in Jeremiah 51:63 the prophet was told to "bind a stone to (this book), and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates." This command by God proves that God does not need originals to preserve His pure Words. Most Hebrew scholars agree that we have a copy of the pure and inerrant Book of Jeremiah in the Masoretic text of the Old Testament. The newly discovered fact, by Hebrew mathematicians who are not Christians, that only the Masoretic text contains encrypted messages from God in it and not other versions of the Old Testament shows that God is not slack, much less unable, to preserve His Word in written form. . 3 Greek teachers tell us that there are four classes of conditions for the use of "if" in the Greek: 1st class -- if and it is true; 2nd class -- if and it is not true; 3rd class -- if and maybe it is true and maybe it is not true (it's potential); 4th class -- I wish it were true but it is not (optative). Given this to be factual and given that the "if" in Matthew 24:24 is a 1st class condition, Jesus indicated that it is possible for the very elect to be deceived. (Our )
