Appendix 1 The Cosmos of Satan

by Lee Y. Martin, Ph.D., ©2004

We have noted in the body of the text of this interpretation that the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness [Luke 4:5-7] gives full support to the reality that earthly governments are in the hands of satan. Because satan is in control, they reflect his arrangement of worldly things. There are almost 200 instances of the use of ‘cosmos’ [Strong: NT 2889] in the New Testament, and every time but one it is translated by the English word ‘world.’

For the sake of time and space, I will take the liberty to summarize the Bible’s numerous references to the world by saying that God deems the world an unacceptable habitation for His people because it represents civilization independent of Him. It is exemplified by secular humanism at its cultural best and governmental variations too often ruled by the basest of men [Daniel 4:17]. Believers are left here after conversion to testify to the darkness and godless character of the cosmos on the one hand, and on the other for the purpose of bearing children who will become a family and an inheritance for God.

In no way are we to become attached to the world after being born into God’s family. Because we are made new creatures at the new birth [Galatians 6:15], our citizenship shifts to heaven making us ambassadors for Jesus in a foreign kingdom. Our home is in the New Jerusalem located in the Kingdom of God. As strangers and aliens on this planet [Hebrews 11:13], we are not to love any part of this world’s system.

The Cosmos of Satan

1 John 2:15-16

15 Love not the world (cosmos), neither the things that are in the world (cosmos). If any man love the world (cosmos), the love of the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world (cosmos), the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world (cosmos).

Jesus made it quite clear in His last prayer in John 17 that we are not to love the world. He said, I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world [17:15-16]. He prayed that His people would be kept from this present evil system. The word for ‘world’ was used 79 times in the book of John alone (19 times in chapter 17), and all but 6 times Jesus was the one using it. Each time it negatively characterized the cosmos. Do you think our Lord is trying to tell us something?

The inattentive Bible reader looks upon the world as a dwelling place for good along with evil. However, the New Testament in particular has made the case that there is nothing good at all in this present world system. It is for this reason that it must be judged in due course. Listen to a token few of the Spirit’s denotations:

1 Corinthians 1:21 -- Forthe world (cosmos) by wisdom knew not God;

1 Corinthians 11:32 -- …that we should not be condemned with the world (cosmos);

Ephesians 2:12 -- …without God in the world (cosmos):

James 1:27 -- …and to keep himself unspotted from the world (cosmos).

2 Peter 2:20 -- …if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world (cosmos) through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

John 18:36

36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world (cosmos): if my kingdom were of this world (cosmos), then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

From the above quotes, and there are dozens more like them, one can see that God considers the world an ungodly place and any attachment to it is anathema to Him.

The Babylonian Gossamer

‘ Cosmic’ comes from the Greek root word ‘kosmos’ meaning universal. In one sense, it means bringing order out of chaos. (Could that be the reason facial makeup is called cosmetics?) In another sense it connotes inclusiveness, comprehensiveness, or across-the-board. This is the sense from which the cosmic Christ of the upcoming United Religions (UR) of the world is derived and the sense which brings upon the world the wrath of God. This pantheon of gods is a resurgence of the original pagan idolatry only with new trappings.

The cosmic Christ will emerge as the primary god of the UR just as the sun god was the foremost god of the heathen. This cosmic counterfeit Christ will manifest as the end-time Antichrist world ruler demanding worship from all people. He will appear as an imitation savior claiming to bring peace to a troubled world and promising to meet everyone’s needs via a New World Order. He will coalesce as an amalgamation of the ideal leader of all faiths, but will lead the world to self-destruction instead of utopia.

The interfaith initiatives promoting this UR with its cosmic Savior are jeopardizing the core tenets of all the religions they serve. The movement is being touted as the only way to world peace, but its altruistic motivation of solving multicultural problems in shrinking global space masks the serious fact of interfaith harlotry. It is for this reason that the Bible calls the Babylonian goddess of the Apocalypse ‘the mother of harlots and abominations of the earth.’

Because false religions play the harlot with this Babylonian mother of fornication, they too ride the beast along with her and share responsibility for the blood of lost souls. Hence, they partake of her sins as well as her judgment. Therefore, Mystery Babylon the Great cannot be a metaphor for Catholicism as some claim. Yet, Catholicism along with wayward Protestantism are becoming two of her biggest paramours.

The devil’s ploy in this massive seductive enterprise is to make people think that the Spirit of God works through Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Voodooism, and all other religious ‘isms.’ World sentiment is rushing this movement to fruition. The opening up of the country of Iraq, the land of Shinar, makes the resurrection of Babylon as the seat of world rule a distinct possibility in fulfillment of Zechariah’s prophecy regarding the return of ‘wickedness’ in the commercial ‘ephah’ basket to Babylon [5:5-11].13

Zechariah 5:10-11

10 Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah?
11 And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.

Governmental coalitions are even now considering making the land of Shinar, otherwise known as Babylon, a home to all religions. There is presently a Christian constituency of 700,000 people living in Iraq and they say that 80% of the people are pleased with their liberation. The radical few always receive the attention.

As religious experimentation is being discussed and the opening up of greater commerce to Iraq is in the works, ‘world servers’ are bringing together alliances of all sorts in an effort to piece together a workable solution for peace in the whole of the Middle East. It appears like Babylon is being restored to become the center of world commerce as prophesied.

Implications For Interfaith Initiatives

It is instructive, even astonishing and disquieting, that in October of 2003 less than six months ago there was an interfaith conference in Fatima, Portugal in which the Roman Catholic Church played an integral part in promoting multireligious commingling. They made the decision to reconsecrate the Shrine of Fatima as a place where all religions could merge and intermingle. The Fatima complex was built in honor of Mary, Jesus’ mother. Does the Queen in the vision reflect this reformation of The Lady of Fatima? Jeannette’s escort in the dream who depicted her son also took a supporting role in the drama similar to the Madonna who overpowers her child wherever she goes.

No matter where one turns, it is impossible to get away from vestiges of the original idolatrous system of Babylon – the Mother and Son schema. Even today numerous Christian traditions, especially those related to holidays, incorporate heathenistic rituals. Is it not shameful that we have passed the point of alarm at witnessing blatant paganism, witchcraft, and sorcery in public places, governmental offices, and the halls of ivy?

This fast-tracking interfaith collaboration seriously endangers the purity of the Christian community. The thrust of the message of this vision is the shock value it has on believers to strive to keep themselves pure because we know that without purity no one will see God [Matthew 5:8]. Whoever has ears to hear needs to stay vigilant in watching for our Lord and in preparing for a rapid departure from earth. According to Revelation 18:24, people who miss the rapture will be forced to discourse, or should I say intercourse (?), with other religions or forfeit their lives on the altar of non-exclusiveness as the vision infers.

Isn’t that what happened to Jeannette? The demons attacked her viciously trying to compromise her body indicating the severity of non-conformity to the Queen’s demands. The Lord spared us nothing in this vision to get across the seriousness of being unprepared to depart this world. John’s graphic picture in Revelation 9 about the two woes coming upon people during the tribulation parallels this vision’s horrors. It is not at all improbable that the demonic attacks Jeannette endured represented the sting of the locusts that come out of the abyss during the tribulation [9:10,19]. Did she not say that the people cohabiting in the palace turned into demonic beings? Leaders who intimate that joining in with the Interfaith Initiatives is all right put themselves at risk of becoming promoters of false teaching. Do you remember that the underlying message of the books of Jude and 2 Peter is that false teachers will come in the last days and seduce the flock? Do they correlate with the false shepherds Jesus spoke of who lead sheep out of the sheepfold? Their judgment, however, will come upon them as in the days of Noah, in the same way that it did upon the angels who…kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation…giving themselves over to fornication …and going after strange flesh [Jude 6,7]. In short, they mingled with the seed of men and women. Is it not curious that the word ‘mingle’ keeps cropping up in a negative sense in Scripture?

Daniel 2:43

43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. (Is this referring to governments, religions, or manifested demons?)

The filthy behavior of the Queen’s constituents that disgusted Jeannette symbolized this damnable soul of the United Religions initiative. People who do not welcome the admixture of contrary doctrinal tenets and who must confess that all faiths are legitimate roads to heaven are at risk of losing their lives. This is an ideological challenge for Christianity that will test its worth as in the days of the church of Smyrna [Revelation 2:8-11]. Will Christianity be the Great Confession as it was known to be in the first century or will it succumb to the pressures of whoredom? Truly, this is a system right out of the cauldrons of the spirit of confusing Babylonianism.

Satan has constructed this end-time scenario in order to preserve his cosmos. On the surface, multireligious unity appears good and indeed helpful for the security of a world without war. Considering the complexity of controlling the exploding population of the planet, the devil must devise a plan to keep terrorists from destroying his kingdom. Don’t forget that the tree in the garden had good fruit on it as well as evil. Is it not possible that satan’s ambitious nature to rule like God is more than he can handle? Trying to balance gross evil and human good in a fast-paced society composed of men with sin natures is possibly overtaxing the devil’s capacity. He is not God and his strength is waning because his demonic forces are fixed in number and spread thin due to the population explosion. Moreover, some believers are beginning to exercise their authority over evil spirits, which is increasingly compromising his strength.

We know from Scripture that during the tribulation the Antichrist will have trouble from all quarters of the globe. Even though he makes a good start by promising peace, he cannot deliver the goods. Everything falls apart on him as the cosmos crumbles after he is kicked out of heaven [Revelation 12]. The fact that he cannot control the dissipation of the cosmos infuriates him to the point of killing anyone who rebels against his orders. We saw this in the ranting and raving of the Queen in the vision. If anyone will not bow down and worship him, he will, like the Queen, add their blood to the stain-splattered walls of the tower. Tower

Tower of Babel

In Summation

Satan is at this time trying to revive his early attempt to unify all men under his absolute authoritarian control. He began his machinations immediately after the flood at the Tower of Babel. Although temporarily halted, his grand system of idolatry formed at the Tower before the dispersion of languages has worked for the most part throughout the years. In brief, it is a army of demons assigned to various idols be they mental or material, that secretly maneuver to keep worshippers of these things in tune with the devil’s objectives.

God destroyed his first historical attempt to unify all men with the confusion of tongues. Technological advances of late, however, have eliminated the problems arising from diversity of tongues. With the click of a button, whole manuscripts can be translated into multiple languages in nanoseconds. Therefore, the seduction of man through the confusion of worship can pick up where it left off at the perplexing of the nations.

During the Exodus from Egypt, the plagues represented God’s judgment on the major Egyptian gods. Remarkably, judgment mimics the features of sin. Confusion of tongues was the judgment on confusion of worship. The source of man’s genius at imaging was confused by inability to communicate his thoughts. Nevertheless, the false ‘Gateway to Heaven;’ at Babel was already instilled in the mental schemas of men and wherever they migrated after the dispersion, they took the seed of idolatry with them. Men had succeeded in walking independently of God.

The first try at unifying men under the absolute authority of one person failed, and the last worldwide attempt more sweeping and far-reaching will fail as well. Like the original tower, our Lord will destroy this invisible but real tower stained with the blood of the martyrs [Revelation 17:6; 18:24].
